Chicago Construction Site Injuries Lawyer

Construction sites are busy, noisy places. Large diesel engines may run constantly, making it hard for workers to hear approaching dangers. There is often little or no warning for dangerous conditions such as holes, slippery surfaces and unsecured building components.

Can I Sue My Employer If I Am Injured?

Your employer is generally protected from personal injury lawsuits by employees in exchange for providing workers’ compensation benefits. Workers’ compensation is a program that provides benefits to injured workers regardless of who was at fault. However, there are times when you have legal options in addition to workers’ compensation.

If you are injured by a third party (someone other than your employer), you may also be entitled to file a personal injury lawsuit against the third party. Examples of third parties include:

  • Other vendors or contractors working on the same job site
  • The property owner
  • Manufacturers of equipment used on the site
  • The other driver in an accident involving a construction vehicle

While the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is responsible for the enforcement of safety and health law at construction sites, cutbacks in the agency has made it less effective in protecting workers. Our civil justice system can provide a strong deterrent to construction companies that put workers at risk.
