Nursing home abuse often calls for remedial action

Residents of Chicago, Illinois, want their elderly loved ones to be safe. Many elderly loved ones need to live in nursing homes so that they get the proper care that they need.

Although nursing homes aim to protect the residents, nursing home abuse and deaths are not uncommon in Illinois and in the rest of the United States. Since the elderly are often more vulnerable than younger people, they may not speak about the neglect and abuse.

In many cases, nursing home abuse and neglect go unreported and become apparent only when the situation gets out of control. If an elderly loved one has been abused or mistreated in a nursing home, that person’s loved ones have a legal right to seek action against the negligent administrators of the nursing home. According to the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act, the loved ones may be able to obtain compensation.

However, the loved ones may not be able to obtain compensation on their own. If that is the case, the loved one may wish to consider seeking the services of an attorney. Our law firm has helped many Illinois residents to seek justice for their loved one’s abuse and neglect in a nursing home. Our law firm takes the safety of the elderly very seriously and our lawyers will do everything they can to make a negligent nursing home pay for mistreatment and neglect.

In a  nursing home abuse  case, the person filing the lawsuit will need to follow certain legal procedures before filing and that person will also need to prove negligence in court. Our lawyers help our clients at each step of a nursing home abuse case-from filing the initial complaint on behalf of our clients to reviewing and potentially responding to the nursing home’s reply to the complaint-and we do our best to help our client get justice.

Kevin Veugeler secured a $3.2 million recovery plus a waiver of $750,000 in Workers' Compensation benefits for a Sprinkler Fitter who fell from a ladder. While litigating this case, Kevin was able to show that the general contractor and owner of the jobsite failed to follow their own site-specific safety plan to protect the safety of their subcontractors. Through documents and deposition testimony, Kevin was able to establish that the general contractor and owner failed to provide a safe place to work. If you, a friend or a family member have been injured, please contact Healy Scanlon Veugeler Gannon for a free consultation.
